The Golden Cliffs
by Peter Coskun
I spent a few evenings along the lower salt river shooting with Doug K. Bob Miller came out the second night and shot with us (sorta), but he got a killer shot at his location. Doug and I chose to shoot this large reflection pool instead. The light was pretty nice this evening. There was a soft rich light (if that makes sense) that was very appealing to me. I added an Orton layer to emphasize the light and open up a few dark shadows. I was actually working on doing a pano, a few from this spot, and this was one of my favorites. The light hitting the trees only occurred for a few minutes before the clouds took over and later provided another light show. Anyways, this is a six image stitch, all vertical frames. I cloned out a rock that was in the lower right that I thought was distracting, but works for another image (I think). As always, comments and critiques appreciated. 12 commentsBeautiful, sweet and warm, glowing light. I thought I recognized a little Orton here. Interesting too, that the lower rez image seems more "dreamy" with less contrast (opened shadows you mentioned) than how the higher-rez image comes across. I think compression really accentuated that glow - so much to the point where I much prefer the larger view version. Just seems to me the peaks/rock formations have a much truer ring to the contrast. Not sure if it's making sense.
I also agree with Tony's comment about the bright patch on the left. Man, that guy has a good eye for things don't ya think?
A beautiful moment. Love the clouds and muttled reflections.

Lon, I get what your saying about the compression in this version, it gives too much of a glowing feeling and I wasn't trying to go overboard. And yes, Tony has the eye of a hawk, glad he caught that though.
