Dawn of a New Year

Out early this morning to the local nature preserve. Nice and chilly today with lots of frost from below freezing temps. I found quite a bit of activity with the deer. At one point I thought the rut was over as the bucks were just loafing around. But a frenzy of doe chasing laid that theory to rest. I enjoyed this quiet shot of a young doe who was quietly feeding and lifting her head periodically to check on me. I noticed the nice color in the sky behind her and thought it would make a nice New Year photo. Experimented a bit with the comp and elected to go with this one. Only change was to up the saturation just a bit and clone a pipe in a neutral color. Otherwise as shot except for sharpening for the web. Comments and critiques are welcomed and appreciated. And... Happy New Year!

I like the effect of the deer within environment. I think it would have been better if all of the deer was showing, with legs to suspend her a bit in that open space. Comp is pleasing.

This is very pleasing to me. You did great showing the deer in its environment. The trees add some character and the sunset and low light give it a moody feel. the only thing I would do is clone out that stick going across the deer but that is just personal preference. Otherwise great job.
