Deer family

Well, not really sure if they're a family, buy there are two or three adults and a few of what look like yearlings that hang out in the woods above the house. They'll come down toward dusk and paw at the ground to get through the snow and eat whatever grass and leaves are left. They're pretty jumpy since it's still deer season around here so I had to hide a fair distance away. This is about a 50% crop. I had a difficult time with the processing because of low light and in spite of the low light it was a little contrasty with the snow cover.

Thanks for looking.

Great to get all 4 lined up and looking at you like this Jerry, some of the snow looks like it might be blown out there seem to be bright areas of it surrounded by darker areas of snow, I would guess as a result of processing..as you said a difficult exposure. A very cool shot. :toast:

Thanks for the comments. The larger version does show a little of the processing. The lighter spots on the snow are from a little late light coming in through the woods. I'm going to try for these guys/girls again today, but it's a little darker so we'll see how that goes. I'll try a little higher ISO and maybe balance the exposure a bit.

I appreciate the critiques.

I like the compositional interest provided by the jumble of intermixed legs, and the heads and necks rising above them.

That the post-processing shows in the large version has been said already. I like they way these head are all close together looking at you - very nice moment! I'm not sure about the white balance myself, it looks a touch blue-ish to me. Cool shot!

Jerry, I really think the dof makes this image pop. Sems you captured the brief momets when the deer are making a threat assessment. The one on the far right looks ready to bolt. Nice work. Brad
