Canon 7D
Canon 500mm f4 IS II
F4.0
1/640 s
ISO 320

I rented the new Canon 500mm for an bald eagle photo shoot on the Mississippi River near Prairie Du Chien, Wisconsin. The lens took some getting used to as I had never used a Canon super telephoto before. After using it for awhile, and leaning as I went, I was able to get some pretty decent shots. This particular one is an immature bald eagle. There were lots of immature eagles this year. I guess that is a good sign. I really think the immature birds are just as impressive as the adults. The rich brown colors with the white highlights make for some nice feather detail. Comments and critiques welcome.

Wow! The detail is really amazing even down to the points on the talons. What a great photograph to celebrate your 1 year anniversary
here.

Nice job on the exposure and excellent detail but the pose with the raised wing is not my favorite.

I like the pose and you did a great job of the exposure against that bright bg, Jerry.

Real nice high-key effect with the totally white BG. Nice look at the head as well

I'm sure it was exciting to work with the latest 500mm F4 and you found an excellent subject to photograph. The detail is there and stands out well against the BG. It might be worth the experiment to try cloning out the vertical branch directly behind the eagle. Nice work!
