Saint Mary Lake Sunrise, Glacier NP

Sunset didn't work out, but I'm glad I went back for sunrise. First light was blocked by clouds on the horizon, but it wasn't till later that the puffys in the sky really got beautiful. Not in the shot of course, but there was a moose poking around about 200 feet away!

Comments welcome and appreciated.

 Isn't that the moose swimming across the middle of the lake? If so, then I think you should crop out the sky and the mountains.....if not, then my critique of this image is really going to take a hit. There's just far too few engaging elements without it. You wouldn't see this on anyone's wall.

Wow, Slavomir I am in love with this image...everything in it. From the perfect clouds, the sun-washed mountains, and silhouetted trees at the bottom of the frame. Its perfect.

I have had nothing but bad luck with Glacier NP. If I spent a week, it was a week of low clouds. This was spectacular conditions and you nailed a beautiful shot. A common perspective here, but very uncommon results! :toast:

Great clouds and nice warm light. My experience with Glacier has been no clouds on the dryer eastern side. They all just seemed to disappear at the Continental Divide.

Excellent.I prefer a little less sky,but still love it.The popcorn clouds are what really make this one.I'm glad you went back for sunrise as well.

Note to MC: Clean your glasses! A moose? How 'bout an island!

This is beautiful. I love a dominant sky when there's this much good stuff going on in it. There seems to be a slight CCW tilt to this, but that could just be a shoreline thing.

The clouds set this one apart fomr other images I have seen of St. Mary Lake. I was there for a couple of consecutive mornings on my last trip but the light would not cooperate. The second morning, standing with 4-5 other photographers, someone drove in and told us a large grizzly was poking around a short distance up the road. A couple of folks went to look for it, and the others went to sit in their cars :) I had the place to myself.

This one packs a punch WOW!! Factor..

I was up there a few years ago and had nothing but those clear blue cloudless skies and high winds...

I LOVE THIS IMAGE!!!!!!!!! The clouds really make this one for me... coupled with the "almost fish-eye" appearance - this is top notch, top shelf, top gun - material!!

Note to TC: I will try to answer with the cyber tongue that I recently pulled back out of my proverbial cheek while I was critiquing Slavomir's beautiful image (a point I thought I made painfully obvious with the outrageous bookends of sarcasm and winkage )...if you remember George W. in the debate, here's a paraphrase -

"Of course I know that's an island. I know that!"

Slavomir - This is a frequently photographed scene in Glacier....but your shot is definitely one of the finest I have ever seen of this scene...no pun intended. It may be my monitor...buit it appears slightly oversaturated for my taste only. It's nice to see you on NPN to even set the bar higher for some more spectacular nature images.
