Rage against Frozen

Hi Everyone,

I'm back from what has turned into 7 months offline for me. No posts to any forums or anything except checking my email because I've been so busy! My days have been filled with travels and shooting to all ends of the continent once again and have spanned across Alaska and the Far North of Canada to the desert Southwest, Canadian Rockies and many other locations. NEW work has been uploaded to my website, thanks for your thoughts on this.

This photograph is one of my favorites from my recent collection and depicts the wet world inside an ice cave inside a glacier in Alaska, which I photographed extensively as I was making a 35-day long solo backpack across the Boundary Range, one of the most glaciated places in the world. The trek was extremely memorable, but nothing for me surpassed the experience of being inside these crystalline blue-ice caves which in one glacier continued through a multitude of passageways for nearly a mile!

I got absolutely soaking wet for this shot even despite a lot of Goretex but I wanted a shot showing off the furious water action I was standing in most of the time. Other images from the glacial caves show off the ice formations and other areas inside.

The image is two exposures blended carefully by hand from a 14mm lens on the D800E. A large version has been included.

Awesome handling of the light and motion, Marc. The "explosions" of water droplets on the left are really cool - tough capture. I really like your new set. This one, along with "See Through" are my favorites. Welcome back, but I'm sure you'll be back out there before too long. Thanks for the inspiration. :toast:

Wow an amazing picture Marc. Gorgeous colours and great to see the water in streaks as opposed to vaporous.

Yikes.....well beyond Goretex here, Marc. Looks like a wetsuit required for the water world...
What a challenge this must have been to work out logistically, physically, and technically. A wonderful capture all the way around. Welcome back after the lengthy road and hiking trips. :wavey:

Welcome back Marc! I just went through the gallery of new images on your website. I'm really amazed by the variety of images you captured over the past 7 months. Very inspirational work! My favorites were "So Long for this Moment" and "Eyes can't tell us".

The image above really captures the energy of this place. Well done.

Tremendous work as usual Marc! The large version really shows off the great depth in the photograph. The perspective you chose really makes the image and the shutter speed shows off the rushing water perfectly.

Just spectacular as usual. I went through the new work twice so far and still haven't picked a clear favorite, they are all just perfect. You can really see your passion for the wilderness and your photography in these images and it is extremely inspirational stuff. I've heard very little in terms of info on the locations you shot (boundary range), but showing these photos just gives us another perspective on a small part of the continent that many have never ever seen before. Thank you for sharing your entire collection with us!

Very cool! Some of the water action is maybe just a bit distracting for me but, overall, it adds considerable dynamic appeal. In all technical respects (composition, post-processing, etc.) this looks spot-on to me.

Oh WOW Marc! This is absolutely amazing, stunning, incredible....... You certainly know how to WOW us!

I also really enjoyed looking at your other new images. I do indeed think this is my favorite though but the others are gorgeous in their own right. Welcome back. Sounds like an arduous, wilderness survival trip and glad your back safe and sound.

Fabulous, especially in the larger version. I can imagine the tenuousness of setting up and getting this right, getting wet and cold, and pressing ahead anyway. Well scouted, seen, shot, and processed.

Now there's some serious motion... Lot's to enjoy here. Looks like a fascinating place to explore...

I thoroughly enjoyed the new images. Must have been quite the experience hiking alone for so long! Don't know if I could last that long, but would love to explore those areas.

I just checked out your new stuff--and i think without question its your strongest collection to date. I cant even pick a favorite theyre all just friggin sick! If i have any 'critique at all' it's that it's definitely over-the-top stuff, like Marc Adamus on steroids  Maybe as you get older you'll mellow and do more of the laid back stuff to balance a bit. But that's ok--keep at it man, im enjoying the show!

Thanks, Stan. I was going for more of a throwback look, actually, as I used to be known for some pretty high-contrast stuff and I felt like recently my work had gotten a bit flat by comparison, so I brought back some bold 'pop' in the tonal realm. Also, I look at what's being done today and the trends in processing landscapes and I can't help but be somewhat influenced by the norm, which seems to be pushing things further than ever. Still though, I did plenty of subtle renditions as well and I hope they aren't lost in the pile of vibrant colors and high contrasts on display on my site. I do still have some very soft takes on things as well.

Nice work as always.

Regarding the new work, lots of great stuff there. I did, however, notice a PANORAMIC image in there! I distinctly remember you telling me once about how much you disliked panos and would never shoot one. Never say never, eh?

I've had a panoramic image of the Sierra on that website since 2005 and mentioned that, but you're right, I don't like them much.
