Happy New Year everyone. Here is my first photo for 2013, and it also happens to be the first new crescent moon for 2013 as well.
Very simple. Smooth color.
Enjoy.

I photographed that moon tonight, too, but not nearly as successfully. Nice.

That's one of the thinnest every. Wonder if it has to do with the time of year.

It varies Tony. Its actually not a very thin moon. It was a 35.5 hour old moon, that is 35.5 hours past conjunction and was 2.4% illuminated, meaning that 2.4% of the full disk was illuminated. The thinness comes from photographing it as soon as it was sighted. As the evening continues and the sky dims, the contrast increases and brings out more of the moon. Youngest moon I ever photographed was just over 25 hours old and just about 1% illuminated. Now that was thin.

Usually images like this don't do it for me - but this one does. It is simply, has complimentary colors, and I like the small detail shown in the light.

Youssef,
A fine way to great the new year - and a Happy New Year to you as well. Love the color and simplicity of this. Always enjoy and look forward to your moons.
I do notice a couple of faint dust bunnies just to the right of the moon - at least that's what they look like to me, faint spots.
