Thanks for the comments on my Waxwing image.
This was taken this morning in Hyde Park in the middle of London. These 2 Bearded Tits have been there for about a month, but news only got out about a week ago so there have been lots of people coming to see them. The views are superb, and I was glad to get this one in the sun!
Techs:
Nikon D300s
Nikon 200-400mm f4 VR
Handheld

1/1600s
ISO 500
Tiny bit of Bearded Tit cloned out from the bottom left.
Please view large, and all C&C welcome as ever.
Thanks for looking,
Oscar

16 commentsBeautiful bird - love the soft colours and light. That bright eye is marvelous, and I love the fuzzy perch.
That dark area intersecting the head bugs me a little - not a big deal, but i think cloning some out then healing over it would improve the image.
Really fine catch!

Comp is a bit centered for my taste. Maybe a bit more room bottom and right and a bit less on top?
MY
WORD.
Killer image, here, Oscar. Just gorgeous. So many things coming together to make this top-shelf, IMO. I read all the previous comments, critiques and suggestions and generally can't disagree with any of them...except this has fantastic impact as presented, and in the end it's hard to get around that for me. If I were forced to consider areas for improvement, the thing I would personally look at (and this really is just my taste or "style") would be whether you had the room in the original file to move the comp so the bird is higher and slightly more to the left of the image than he is here. However, there's so many variables that come into play with these kind of suggestions: did you choose this comp because of distracting elements to the right or bottom of this frame, and what would happen when the upper grasses were cropped out of the frame, leaving only the large and then very dominant "blob" behind the bird? For me, I'm thinking you probably knew what you were doing when you chose this comp, and it's a stellar image as a result.
Cheers, Greg
Graham you never know! This year they've had Scaup, Goosander, Bearded Tits, and a female Goldeneye yesterday, all in central London! The capital's not too bad for photography occasionally
