Eagle on Ice

Taken today from a blind on the shore of the St. Lawrence River.

Nikon D300; 500mm; f7.1 @ 1/640th; ISO 400; HH; Full frame.

All comments and suggestions welcome. Does this "work" as is, showing the faint reflection on the ice?

Oh yeah, it works! Needs just a little cw rotation. Very well seen and captured! Sharon

I think it's excellent. Great exposure with all the blacks and whites, fine detail, and the icy reflection has just enough colour and definition to wrk well. Does need a bit of CW rotation so the eyes of eagle and eyes in the reflection are on a vertical line.

This certainly works for me, Tom. Excellent job on the exposure and great detail in the plumage. I like the pale reflection.

Great seeing it on the ice ... reflection works well ... maybe try selectively darkening it just a bit.

Whites on the bird could actually go a bit brighter. Agree about the CW rotation.

That really works for me. That pale reflection on the ice is just right. Is it ice covered with a thin layer of water to be so smooth and shiny? Excellent exposure. That bright area at the very top is a bit distracting to my eyes, but that is minor. Fine image.

Great feaher detail and exposure. I'm in a different place than most on the reflection.

I think the reflection adds a lot to this image, Tom. Very regal pose and the ice makes this special. I think you did exceptionally well to get all the details in the plumage without losing at either extremes. :toast:

I like seeing the reflection even though it is some what faded but for me this makes it more interesting. Nice full frame image that shows good detail on the eagle in the larger image.

Thanks for the input, everyone!

I now see the need for the cw rotation. I would never have noticed that on my own.

Roger - you are correct. There was a thin layer of water covering the ice yesterday, giving the reflection.

Really like this composition Tom, sitting on the ice gives that lovely reflection and you can see all the lovely detail in the larger image.Graham

The unblemished clarity of the ice compared to the textured white of the BG make for a pleasing, unique shot :toast:
