These hoverflies are all around my flower beds in the summer. I was able to catch one in flight as it was checking out a black-eyed susan flower which is what is OOF in the background.

Canon Rebel T1i. 180mm macro lens. F/4.5 for 1/160 sec. ISO 800. Tripod mounted (?), natural lighting.

Neat photo of the hoverfly. I do find the glare on its body to be a bit distracting. Don't know if you can do anything about it. It would be beyond my skills. Thanks for sharing.

We used to call these news bees. I agree with John on the glare, Doable with careful work.

Super capture, Carolyn. I especially like the angled position of the hover providing the great view of the wing action. The bg is super as well. :toast:

Nice catch! I think that glare could easily be toned down...no problem. Yikes you have fast reflexes!

Ok, here is a repost where I tried to tone down the glare. Is this one better? Thanks, everyone for your comments.

A very nice photo. I really like the colors and the position of the animal that enters the frame.

I like the second post a little better as it brings out the browns more and the blacks dont overpower. Nice job on the 1/160th shutter speed!
