I'm obsessed, I can't stay away from these things.
I suppose there are worse things to be obsessed with.

Are the buds at the right enough to balance the mass of white petals on the left?

Who says you should? Your orchid series is exceptional! It seems balanced to me.

Mark: And a wonderful obsession it is! I like the buds and your exposure. I was looking at some of these today but could not find a bunch that caught my fancy. Great work. >=))>

The buds are fine by me, Mark - what I most like, though, is the way you've emphasised the flower centres and got that lovely fading of the petals into the distance. Very fine image !

I like the arch of the stem and the flower + bud combo. I expect that it's part of your high key approach, but the buds feel a touch washed out to me, particularly when compared to the lower stem.

Mark, the Phalaenopsis is the more simple and beautiful orchid for me too. As to the balance of the composition, I am thinking that cutting the upper part of the frame (format 3:2) the buds take place in the corner opposite to the stem. So there visual weight would be increased ; may be. It's just for experimenting.
Take care.
