Spirit of the West Coast

This photo was taken on Canada's West coast this fall. I originally overlooked it but when I double checked my raw files it caught my eye so I touched it up. The composition is a bit different and I wanted to get opinions on it from a technical perspective and an aesthetics perspective. Thanks for looking.

I like the way the rock is glowing in the foreground...and there is plenty of detail in the darker rock. I think it is a very pleasing composition actually...my only nit is the halo arching over the sun which is probably easily fixed.

The colors here are quite nice, I love the rich warm tones in the sky and rocks. As already noted there is a halo, and this I am just being really nit picky, I wish there was a sunstar :) .

Really like the intense colors and the way you framed the elements. Also like how the textures and colors in the shadow come through so well.

This surely works for me Vincent. I never caught a sunset or sunrise when I visited Vancouver Island a few years ago. The weather just did not cooperate. This is very enjoyable with fantastic color and light.BTW - Welcome to NPN.

Love that wonderful glow that appears diffused throughout the image. Like your composition with the prominent foreground rocks with nice detail, and the landforms in the distance. Well done.

This is a beautiful scene with great rocks, coast and sky. It feels like the composition is a bit right heavy. If there were a way to create better balance left to right it might be improved. Then again that may not have been possible. Still very nice as is.

Thanks Robb, I think your critique is spot on. I hadn't noticed before but the big rock is too big. I think if you shaved about a foot off of the top the comp would balance better and it would reveal more of the distant landforms. Good call.
