Fox squirrel

This fox squirrel was trying to feed on sap from a branch that had been recently cut, but crows seem to object to his behavior and kept making passes at him. Finally the crows left him alone about the time I got into camera range.

Very nice profile. Seems a bit over-sharpened, perhaps because the catch light in the eye is just a tad soft. That happens sometimes, but it's a nice capture of this little guy.

He picked a good tree to hang out in, not a lot of clutter and I like the simple/strong composition. The horizontal branch detracts from an otherwise very attractive background. The other concern I have are the sharpening artifacts, already covered by John. Thanks for posting another interesting species of squirrel.

The darker background sets him off nicely. I like the pose and the angles of the branches, too. Sharpening is making him look "crispy."

Hi John,

The contrasting colour and nice soft light sets this squirrel off very nicely from the background, yet that background adds some nice "habitat context" to the shot. The sharpening thing is easily corrected, so not a big deal to me. If this were mine I'd probably shift the squirrel just a bit to the left (and possibly slightly higher in the frame). But overall quite pleasing to view...

Cheers...
