Shot this on Lost Mine Trail in Big Bend National Park during after an infrequent snow. The Chisos Mountains were absolutely beautiful covered in snow. I kind of liked the symetry this offered. Converted to B&W in Silver Efex Pro.

Please view large version for better detail.

D2x w/ 70-300 @ 190mm
1/40 @ f/11 - MLU and remote release
100 ISO
No filters that I remember
Tripod
Capture One 6, CS4, Silver Efex Pro

Your thoughts and comments are always greatly appreciated. Thanks for looking.

At first sight, I thought snow in Florida, no way. Then I read on. I do like the symmetry and other abstract qualities here Bill especially the smaller branches.

I like the way you have composed this this image Bill, isolating the snow covered branches. Very nice detail in the snow. Job well done. Chet

A simple and effective composition and it works well in B&W. I like the image.

Nice symmetry and good BW subject. Just find myself wanting to see more structure in the bark. Can you pull some out of the shadows. I think the bark would make a nice contrast to the soft white snow.

Bill, I kind of figured this was not going to be anywhere near the beach this time... .Gosh is this a recent image or one from your trip to Big Bend sometime ago?
Regardless, the closeup here works very nicely for a festive winter season, for those that can handle a bit of snow. As always the larger version provides much more detail too. Nicely done.

Very nice Bill. This is a pretty cool looking comp and I really like the b/w conversion. Perfect exposure imo and I love all the detail in the snow and the bark, especially seen in the larger version. Nice work on this!

Bill,

I was going to say that I'm really enjoying all the detail in the trunk and branches, and the snow too. Great job with handling the snow/exposure, that's a pretty tough situation, but you did a great job with it. I also like your processing and presentation. Is it light and softer around the edges on purpose? Looks like some added anti-vignetting going on. Regardless, very effective.

Great job filling the frame too. Well done sir.

Thanks all for the feedback and comments.

Lon - yes, the reverse vignetting is on purpose, just playing around with something a lilttle different.

Nice icing on the trees. I like your use of lines in this that creates that nice symmetry.
