Oystercatcher on Egg

This poor bird was obviously hot as she (he?) incubated its egg on the sand.

Question: do the blacks look a little weak here? The feathers on the bird might not look dark enough?

Santiago Island, Galapagos (one of the best islands for photography in the Galapagos, BTW)
January 2012
Canon 7D + 300mm f4 L + 1.4TC
f 6.3
1/1000
ISO 320
Cropped to vertical.

C&C always appreciated!

Looks fine to me, Rebecka. The Oystercatchers I see here vary from brown to black. My rule is (if it is properly exposed) is to strive for a fair amount of detail in both blacks and whites, quitting before I get noise, especially in the blacks. This seems to have worked for this one.

Nice portrait, Rebecka. Excellent detail and I always like the birds with wild eyes and this one certainly fits the bill.

cool shot and comp, Rebecka. these are challenging to expose, and I think that you did a good job retaining detail in the shadowed blacks while keeping the sunnier ones looking good too.
