I had been shooting with my big lens all day when I saw this rainbow. Fortunately I had my wide angle lens within reach. I had to work quickly so I shot this from the RV window on a beanbag.

5D MKIII * EF16-35 2.8/L @ F/16 *1/500sec * ISO 400
No crop
Minor editing
From the looks of my camera setting I was still shooting birds...except for the F/16:smile:

Gorgeous scene. Glad you had the wide angle with you, because the sky in the lower half of the scene is not exciting, even with the rainbow. The deep blues are amazing. Hard to tell what's in the foreground; is that a canal on the left, plowed ground in the center, and a road on the right?

Great, dramatic skies, but the intrusive placement of the watermark spoils this somewhat for me.

Dottie,

Glorious clouds/sky! Too bad the rainbow isn't complete, but I actually like that part of the image; you get the impression the rainbow is going through the clouds - very cool.

Hadn't noticed this til now, but I'm going to go ahead and move this to the M&N gallery due to the visibility of the road. Hope you understand. If there's any questions don't hesitate to contact on of the moderators.

Thanks for posting! A great moment.

Lon

ps. I agree with John about the copyright. Totally understand the reasoning, but I think if you dropped the opacity of the text and perhaps considered a better placement it wouldn't be as distracting. no biggie tho.

This is very cool. I really like how the rainbow fades into the clouds.

Gorgeous shot - the fact that the rainbow disappears in the clouds makes it surreal and fantastic. I agree with Lon re. making the copyright text more subtle (opacity/placement).
Grt, Ingrid.

Great timing to catch this fleeting moment. A couple of suggestions- try recovering some of the blown out portions of the sky in the center of the cloud, leveling the horizon, and taking down the sat. on the blue sky a little. Looks a bit over the top as the fringes of the clouds are starting to appear blue.

Beautiful image Dottie, I like how the rainbow disappears in the clouds but both ends are in tact. It was great meeting you the other day. :toast:
