Columbia Reflections

by Jack Maloney

Gallery: Man & NaturePosted February 7, 201379 views6 comments
This was taken on the banks of the Columbia River on a calm winter evening. The color version was nice but I knew a B&W would give a little more impact.

Processed using Lightroom 4, Photoshop CS6, Silver Efex Pro

Tech: Cannon 5DMKII, 28mm, 1/8 second @ F19, ISO 100.

Hey jack, I like the composition and the reflections are very cool. The hint of a starburst adds a lot of depth. I think you may have lost some of the tonal range in your b+w conversion. TFS

I think that perfect reflection in the calm water in the FG is what makes this so neat. My eye just keeps going there. Strong impact in this image. Nice one.

Jack, Those are some great looking clouds! The reflection is very nice and I agree with Nick P. that the small starburst adds some nice depth to the scene. It may need just a little cw rotation. It appears to be leaning down to the left but maybe just an illusion...

Thanks Nick. When I was processing this I did put a straight line across the horizon to make sure it was straight. I think the dark area on the left side of the horizon is causing the illusion.

Thnkd for the feedback!!!

The clouds certainly are dramatic. Somehow, I have trouble associating the stormy looking clouds with the calm water, when I stop to think logically about it.
