WC 570 - winter grass II

Another scene with backlit winter grasses. I saw this sunbeam shining through the far trees and quickly captured a few images before it disappeared. The grasses really glowed. I had some trouble deciding how to tone the image, but I think the colors are about right, but would appreciate any input. 7D, ISO 400, f/11, 1/160, 300mm, partial crop.

Love the way the sun backlights these grasses and the "spotlight" beam from the sun. I think the color works good for this, giving it a nice warm feel. My one suggestion would be to crop out most, if not all, of the sky visible behind the trees. The brightness and vertical trees pull your attention away from the delicate, spotlit, vertical grasses. Very heavenly feel to this. Great find, Rob!

This is really cool. I like the way you handled everything. I am undecided whether I would crop down to just above the tallest highlighted seed head. Not sure the branch tangles add anything. Love how the tree trunks show through in the light shaft.

Wow, those seed heads really lit up! and the beam of sunlight through the thick atmosphere creates another great effect.

Great find  I like the colors and your composition as it is. The trees look like a very typical Kansas hedgerow. IMHO you need the trees left in the image to show where the beam of light is coming from. Thanks for sharing.

That's a neat spotlight, Rob and it really lest those grasses shine. The golden colors feel right to me. I like this as is, but also see merit in Carolyn's suggestion. In fact if you go that route, I'd suggest including a small crop from the bottom to make a square with the sunbeam running corner-to-corner.
