Another woodpecker from the Soberania National Park in Panama. This female was scaling a leaning tree at the edge of the trail. I had increased the ISO here for a fairly quick shutterspeed, but needed fill flash for the shadows.

The position of the bird and the BG provide some really nice contrast for this profile view. A neat looking woodpecker!

great bird, and a nice comp, Chuck. those are some strong looking legs and feet. you did really well on your trip, and I have to say that your use of flash is really good--looks very natural.

I am a great fan of woodpeckers and have just posted one of my own but particularly love your guy and have never seen him before. On a fanciful note he reminds me of a super hero with his black cloak on his back and a masked face. I find the background a little distracting but still thoroughly enjoy your image. Good job.
