Hey Carey, I love the composition of this shot, and especially the detail you captured in the two rams. My only nit is the ewe standing behind them which tends to draws my eye away. Nice job and thanks for posting.

cheers

Spectacular shot. Love the look the right ram is giving the other one. The ewe in the background doesn't really bother me. Nice job. 200mm? You must have been really close.

Good detail, composition and color. I kind of enjoy that third eye the ewe adds. It almost makes a perfect triangle of eyes and adds to the image.

Awesome. The clarity is superb, and the eyes definitely own this picture. There is nothing wrong with this image as is (IMO), but...and there's always a "but...'
I'd play around with darkening the image just slightly, while brightening the eyes a tad - which would make them even more prominent. It took me a moment to notice the third eye in the back.
At the very least, I would apply a vignette around the corners and edges a little - again, just to keep our own eyes from wandering away.
Ok - one more thing - it would take some extra work, but I'd be inclined to clone out the bright grassy stems coming up from the bottom.

Thank you for the comments and suggestions everyone.

Jerry, I wasn't all that close on this one. I was fully zoomed with the 200mm and had to crop it quite a bit to get to what you see here. In fact, my first impression was to trash the image but after a closer look I thought there might be something salvagable. The ewe in the background seemed out of place until I cropped in tight and then it felt like she belonged there. As Don pointed out, the eyes form an imaginary triangle and I find that triangles add strength to an image.

Michael I've tried a few different things since posting, including softening the edges and lightening them up. It's a nice look and I'm not sure which one I prefer but I like your idea as well and will give it a try. As to cloning out the grass, i don't have photoshop yet so it will have to remain for now.

Hi Carey,
..
When I look at this Photo..... looking from a different perspective... my eye keeps being drawn to the back of lead Rams neck (Redish color). Just a thought.... I wonder if at some point this Ram might have had a run in with a predator or was injured in some way? I might be out to lunch, but I am just curious to the coloring.

Nice close up.

The close crop works nicely to use that ewe's eye. The grass does not bother me a bit! It does feel, when looking at the larger edition, that you have cropped quite a bit, but it works nicely in web viewing.

Guy, I have to admit I was baffled at first by your comment about the reddish spot but I see what you are refering to now! I believe that was caused by the processing, as I had to lighten that area up somewhat to get it to look the way I wanted. It isn't all that prominant on my monitor on the small image but its a little more noticable on the larger one. Should be an easy fix, thanks for drawing my attention to it.

Lon, this image is about 25 percent of the original. Thanks for your comments, they are greatly appreciated.

Would have been a lovely composition but for the third subject, in my opinion. And, those parallel oblique lines in the bg keep drawing my eyes there.
