Morning Rush Hour

During the height of the crane departures in the mornings at Bosque del Apache, groups of fifteen or so cranes would leave at once. I liked this grouping of five with all the heads visible. I added some canvas on the right, but I'm not sure it was enough. Unfortunately, even at 1200 pixels, the detail in the cranes doesn't come through. I always do a first sharpening at a 1920 pixel size and it looks nice on my monitor.

7D, 300mm f4 ISL, hand held. f5, 1/3200, iso 640, manual exposure. Canvas added on right and cropped top and bottom to pano. Normal processing in CS5. Taken at 7:52 am on January 19th.

Your comments and criticisms are always appreciated.

Thanks for looking,

This is really nice Dennis, I especially like the warm colortones and setting.
All 5 in sharp focus, great light.
PS - When I sharpen for the web on my hi-res monitor, I generally go for a very 'slightly' OS look at my end.
Most on the web will not view it as we do..

Love the pano format for this grouping. All birds head visible and they are separated nicely in the comp. Very nice job on adding the canvas too. I ran across a feeding group of 2 dozen of these yesterday at Ridgefield, but feeding birds are not nearly as nice as the inflight beauties you captured at Bosque. Well done Dennis.

Very cool take-off scene Dennis. All in good focus and I love the golden backdrop.

Love the warm tones in this image. Nice to get the heads of all the cranes in focus.

I love the variety of the poses here, and of course all of the heads being in view. I watch Sandhills every year and they are always so intriguing to me. Great photo; thanks for sharing!
