This picture was taken a month back on a mysty morning in Bangalore. The myst promoted dew drops to be formed on many flowers in Lalbagh gardens. But I had noticed this particular flower has the ability to hold the dew drops in perfect spherical shape. The drops almost seem to hang on to the surface and edges by some magical force. After some search I found this flower that offered a great background from similar flowers and also provided an opportunity to include those flowers inside the drops. The next challenge was to get closer. My 100mm 1:1 macro did not provide adequate magnification. Hence I strapped on a 1.4 tele-converter to the lens with an extension tube sandwiched in between, removed the hood and could set up the tripod to get fairly close.

Canon 40D; Canon 100mm IS USM; Canon 1.4 Teleconverter
ISO 200; F11; 1/6 seconds; tripod; two-second timer; spot metering

Stunning photo...worth all your efforts. Love the colors, the reflections in the droplets, the curve of the main comp. Well-done!

Outstanding, Murali. Technically well done. Good choice on the lens opening and great job getting such good magnification plus detail. What makes this shot, in addition to the large and beautiful refrations in the dew drops, is the nice curving edge of the petal. This adds additional artistry and interest to the image. :toast:

Spectacular! The dew drops are great, especially getting so many along the edge sharp and then you got flower in the lens wonderfully clear to really make this outstanding. Your adding the extension tube to the 100 is a great idea, since you can't "normally" use a teleconverter with that lens. I'll definitely look into that combo.

I love refracted raindrop images and this one is just fantastic! What an amazing line-up of raindrops across the top of the flower with each containing a refracted flower image. Wonderfully artistic comp and great DOF choice. Very well done! :toast:
