Frozen Universe

I've had the right weather for exploring what I've taken to calling icestracts (abstracts using ice's refractory properties) and was going to post one in this gallery when I saw Murali's post and was reminded about how to get more magnification out of my 100mm macro lens. This is the result of revisiting my pond ice with Murali's suggested lens combo. I would like to get even closer to focus on one of the bubbly structures but that would require levitating my tripod above the ice... ...maybe someday the ice structures will come to me. It's also an 8 shot stack for dof. (5D3, 100mm macro L + 36mm ET + 1.4 TE, 0.3s, f/13, iso 200, tripod, cable release and mirror lock up.)

I strongly recommend looking at the larger version.

One sure can get lost inside this frozen universe, there are 'infinite' possibilities man
I appreciate the work you've put in it, great results Mark. At the risk of sounding redundant:wink:you really do get lost 'investigating' this abstract, there's so much to see..
I like the tri-colored BG that divides the frame, well done! :toast: :toast:

Icetracts...what a great term. Small scenes can be fun to shoot when its too cold to go trecking far from home. Nice capture. :toast:

This is a really nice image Mark even if you did not levitate over the pond to get it. I like the color, ice structures and the BG of the overall image. Well done. :toast: :toast:

What a different and beautiful ice abstract! Really like the colors, textures, and all the details in this image, Mark. I'm curious what made the colors behind the ice. The colors and lighting seem to make the ice glow. Very cool.
