Quiet Misty Morning

This is a picture I made this morning (Sunday). Yesterday it warmed up some and started to rain. The rain went through the night and this morning we had lots of fog and light misty rain coming down. I thought it was a perfect morning to head out for some photography. I knew of this pine forest close to home so decided that might be a good bet for getting some shots. This scene is what I came across as I headed in to the forest so I made this picture and was pretty happy with it. The woods were wonderfully quiet with just the sounds of some light rain falling. It was beautiful and I really wanted to capture the feel and mood of it. Thanks for any thoughts.

Great mood and light with excellent layers of tones, too. One can almost feel the damp. You might even want to play with a pano crop of just the top above the bushes.

This has a definite impact on the viewer. A mysterious, yet peaceful scene. I like the lack of detail. It really adds to the ambiance. The slight hint of tall pines in the background is ideal.

This is beautiful, Nick. I love the quiet feel of it, the backdrop of the misty vertical lines and the horizontal white lines of the snow.
Really conveys the peace of the moment. :wavey:

Really moody image. It feels like I am standing there. I love the way the distant trees just appear to going and going on and on...

Perfect amount of fog or mist in this one, Nick. The contrasts between the snow and tree trunks make this scene work very well.

Wonderful mood and just enough depth added with that subtle collection of darker lines.

Really like the feeling you captured with this image Nick. The forest looks surreal, something out of the Hobbit. :toast:

Sweet image, Nick! The fog in this woodland scene lends a wonderful moody and mysterious feel to this image. I really like the horizontal format with the vertical tree trunks. :toast: This is being super picky, but what do you think of a small crop from the left and right sides to get rid of those partial tree trunks? Either way beautifully done.

Thanks so much to all of you for taking time to comment on this. Really appreciated! I'm glad the feel and mood that I was seeing and feeling comes through in this image.
Morris & Eirini, I agree that a pano of the upper part might work very nice. Thanks!
Ed, Yes, I was going to crop that small amount on each side before I posted it, but just decided to leave it as it was. I do think it would be a good idea to do it... Thanks, Nick

I will add my positive comments to this image. The things you have been shooting lately with the fog and high key elements have been outstanding. Great image.

Nick, I do enjoy the plainness of your composition, it has an almost abstract character to my eye. You convey the serene atmosphere impressively to me.

I think a crop at both sides would not leave enough space for the trunks. Your composition works for me perfectly as is.

Love the dark silhouettes of the foreground trees, Nick and those trees in the background are superb. Great mood with the fog. Could see a pano crop of the top 2/3, optimizing the graphic appeal but it sure is outstanding as is.
