This evening I went out as I usually do each month to photograph the new crescent moon. I saw it and photographed it as well. It was not a particularly exciting moon, but I happend to find some other folks out at one of my sighting locations set up with a telescope. I stopped there to inquire what they were looking for only to discover that a comet visible to the naked eye will be there in the night sky just after sunset AND just left of the moon!

Well...the rest of the story can be read on my blog Organic Light Pan

But here is the photo for your viewing pleasure.

Nikon D2x, Nikon 400mm f/5.6 at f5.6, 2 seconds, ISO 400

Beautiful capture. The clouds add nicely to the composition.

An interesting look even without the moon in this capture, Youssef. The linked story was a nice read too and highlighted the photographic adventure you stumbled onto that evening.

I think your portrayal of the comet is more effective than Stans, perhaps its because there is only the sky and the comet.

One wonderful image, Youssef. I love how the comet is so nicely complemented with the subtle gradient of color and tone in the sky and your composition could not be better. Beautiful in every way.

This works very well Youssef. The clouds and color work well along with your placement of the comment in the scene.

Thanks for the feedback. Didi, I was using a 400 mm lens and it did not have the angle of view to include the moon. I was not using my own tripod so I was not thinking things through. Had I been in my right mind, I think I would have made a stitched image with the moon included. But thank you for your feedback. I did think the lone comet in the sky had a powerful feel to it.

Glad you were able to capture this Youssef. I think it works very well with just the comet in the frame. Next time check out spaceweather.com, lots of good info on there, all things sky related. :wavey:
