Might as well keep the dueling dune theme going. Here's one more from Great Sand Dunes National Park in Colorado. The lines and forms in these dunes sure fascinate me, hope they do you as well. Try the larger version.

Nice capture and reminds me that two years ago I passed by this park on the way to New Mexico and White Sands.
I will not do that again. :wavey:

Very nice Russ, the leading lines work great, looks like we were in the dunes on the same day, that wasn't you by chance at Zapata Falls was it?

Lots of nice lines for the eye to follow here...and I love the dark blue of the sky with the wispy clouds!

Cool, Russ--i really like the bg dunes and sky here. Fg is nice too, but the bg is what pulls me in.

Lovely photo, Russ. Great detail and textures with a great sky. I'm wondering if you cropped off the bottom to just above what looks like plant roots, if you would have a really great pano of the dunes. Like Stan, I think the top is the strongest part of the photo.

Hi Russ,

Man all this Sand Dune stuff is making me dream a bit...I like this shot, but I sure wish there was more sky considering those clouds look pretty good to me. Be careful not to get tied up in sand while shooting the Dunes, I still think a nice sky adds more to a dune shot than more foreground sand. I like how you shot this at 28mm, thus using F8 I bet really keeps those foreground sand scenes clean and crisp. Keeping the comp the way it is, I would recommend adding some contrast to the immediate foreground to emphasize the diagonal (right to left) striations. Or possibly adding contrast to the entire image? Just a thought.

Hey Zack, wasn't me. Didn't make it to Zapata falls this trip. I was there on Tuesday this week.

Thanks everyone! This is an amazing place that I hope to experience and photograph many more times. It has the foreign feel that Tony referenced and it is filled with strong lines and form that many have also seen. If you get the chance to experience this place, I highly recommend it - hope to see you there someday. Just make sure you get your visa from Stan! He owns this place.

Another fine shot from there, Russ. Nice comp, light control, and texture. The foreground lines are very effective, too.

Nice. I think you could use even a little more room at the top, at least to include that one cloud. I like the curves of the distant dunes the best. Dunes are fascinating!
