I got my new D7100 the other day in the mail and have been itching to try it out. Today wasn't the best due to high winds and cold air - but I figured there would be some ducks around. The local pond has a high headwall along the road - making intimate shots impossible, but there's a big grate where the spillway is and I was able to lie down on that to get the low angle needed for this shot.

Since I have taken very few photos with this camera - I can't say much. But I can say that it just feels and sounds nicer than my previous (D300s). The new white display in the viewfinder is a big improvement over the previous green one. Quick control of ISO is a big help and the ability to use two buttons (function + front wheel) to toggle between regular and 1.3X crop mode makes the transition super easy.

Nikon D7100 300mm f4 + 1.7X TC HH lying down
f/8
1/1600s
ISO 500
-.67 EC

Full Frame - only cropped to straighten horizon. Original RAW conversion in Nikon Capture (First time using this program and I personally feel it's terrible), then refined in Photoshop

Luke, looks really good. Love the low pov, I am wondering if you feel like this camera is nailing exposure better than your last one? I feel I am not making hardly any exposure adjustments post shot.

Great shot Luke. Love the eye contact, low angle and the ripples.

Very nice Luke, I especially like the rather large water 'swell' that runs along with the bird.
Well done!:wavey:

Great angle, Luke. I like the head turn and the nicely stopped wave. The oof duck in the upper right is a little distracting to my eye. Congratulations on the new camera.

Love the coy, girly pose she gave you and the low pov. I'd consider a vertical crop for this...the very blurry bill of the male ruins keeping the oof bird in the pic in my opinion. But I also realize you're just testing out new gear! Sharon
