Seagull Acrobatics

Hey everyone! I took this image while the other NANPA scholarship students and I were camping on Cumberland Island, Georgia. It was a full day of hiking, and boy was I glad to get a break at the beach! My friend and I were eating our lunch when a seagull landed six feet away from us and started slowly wondering closer. We could immediately tell that he had been fed before. Our instructor threw a crumb of bread to him. We all laid down on the ground, and tried to get a unique perspective on the gulls. Let me tell ya, it sure isn't easy shooting wide angle bird photography while you have more than a dozen different seagulls flying over you, plus they are all doing different things! I just couldn't decide which one to focus on. I did notice, however, that a few gulls to my left kept swooping down closer than the others. I looked through my viewfinder and saw an image I needed to capture! Three seagulls lined up perfectly, all in different positions! I squeezed as much shots off as I could, and was so happy that I actually got the image!

P.S. There is no way I'm switching from Nikon! While it was nice to use different gear and compare the two, I just can't leave Nikon. For me, Nikon is just easier to use and has better controls.

Thanks for lookin'! :wavey:

Interesting position here, as though there are three shots of the same gull in action. Interesting choice to go with the wide crop, as I'm sure you could just hone in on the birds and focus on the interesting pattern created by them. Regardless, I like it.

By the way, what's the story with the Canon gear?

F9 kept all 3 pretty sharp. I like the curl on the left wingtip of the closest gull. Way to be on the lookout for something different! Sharon
