Heart to Heart I

This is the first image from a new series I'm working on. I'm calling the series "Heart to Heart" because the connection I have with the mighty ocean transcends language, space, time and every other barrier. It is a connection of raw spirituality. The moment I see the water, I lose myself in it, its wonder, its magic and its beauty.

I like the dynamic range, the B&W, the "man and nature" allusion, the face profile in the rock illusion, the texture in the rocks and in the wrinkles in the suit. the rule-of-thirds placement of the subject, and the vignette.

I also like your narrative. We don't see any ocean or body of water, but we imagine it based upon your description. And that is fine because ultimately we are imaginaging the image itself; we just don't realize it.

Sairam,

Wow, this is fantastic! Very surprised you don't have more comments on this. In light of John's comment about not seeing "any ocean or body of water," it gave me pause because my impression is that it is indeed a body of water, but the perfectly mirror like surface and lack of any identifying objects (clouds, color gradient, etc.) it certainly does appear to be without water. And honestly my initial impression was this person was on the edge of some odd formed cliff and it's all sky around.

Regardless, a wonderful and imaginative capture. Well done.

Lon, thanks so much! I really appreciate your wonderful feedback. While shooting this one, I intentionally overexposed the image because I wanted to remove any distractions. My goal was to create a sense of contemplation and yes, I agree that the lack of identifiable features makes you debate between whether you are looking at a cliff or an ocean shore.
