A Walk in the Clouds

The pastel purgatory of color between twilight and sunrise among the great sand dunes of Lencois Maranhenses. Brazil.

This is one of my favorite places on earth. The emptiness, the light, the warm tropical breeze, the soft sand under your feet, it is simply out of this world. Thanks for looking.

Mike

Love this place. Colors seem a bit much though...more in the sky than ground. Good to see you're still alive ;)

Beautiful image, Mike. This is a location I've wanted to travel to for a while. The blue in the left upper corner seems a bit dark while the saturation in the clouds is slightly stronger than I'd prefer. Never the less, this is still a wonderful image.

What I do wish is that you posted a larger version.

I knew this was yours the moment I saw the thumbnail. I really like the surreal light that is falling on the foreground sand, and also how it is reflected in the water. This is an absolutely fabulous location. It's great to see the shots you have taken here over the years, and I look forward to what you bring home in the future as well.

I didnt even notice the polarized sky until i saw this on FB--should be a fairly easy fix with selective color or gradient work. Sky colors are pretty strong, but this is a scene that can stand some strong color--so it's in bounds for me,

Beautiful. This really makes me want to be there! I've never seen anyone else post images from here anywhere else. So it must be pretty lonesome out there(a good thing). Nice colors, but maybe a little intense for the serenity of the scene, in the sky?

Hi Mike

Outrageous. Many months ago I had a look through your portfolio of images at these dunes and I resolved that this is a place I would visit for myself taking as long as I need to get there and shoot. I have very few bucket list places to visit but this is one of them. Your image does nothing to dissuade me from going.

Lushious and silky smooth. What a place! I just met with a Brazilian photographer last week who said this was his favorite place on earth. Are we looking down on clouds or something in the distance?

Wonderful image and great use of lines and colors. I would have like personally for the sky to be just a little more on the lighter side. But at the same time, contradicting myself I also like it the way it is. But, this image is stellar. The emotions within the frame run thick. Very nicely done.

Love the idea Mike but the colours look a bit Disney to me (and I orta know coz I've produced plenty of 'em). Run yhis through a Curves adjustment in Colour Mode and see what it tells you.

Fantastic light - the sweeping curves of the sand look so inviting. The blues on the left look a bit too strong, maybe a polarizer? Some great abstracts must have been found with in the dunes and water interface.

Excellent image. Glad to see new work from you! This must be a magical place.
Just a small thing, I also feel the polarized(?) sky on the left a bit strong.
