Prickly Pink Peralta

Went out yesterday to try and catch a grand sunset over the three sisters in the superstition mountains. There was some crazy skies and even endured a freak dust/rain storm that just so happened to occur where I was standing. As my luck would have it, the clouds that were just over the peaks cleared up 5 minutes before sunset. I knew the clouds that had moved east would light up as it was clear to the west. I found this grouping of teddy bear cholla with a few saguaros and barrel cacti scattered around. As I've seen before, the cliffs lit up in that wonderful orange glow as the sky began its colorful display. I haven't had a sunset like this in quite some time, so it was nice to have it here. I still got a fairly decent shot from my intended composition, but the colors which I would have preferred over the peaks were just to the east. Maybe sometime over the summer I will get that glorious image. As usual, comments and critiques are appreciated.

Love the mood you here Peter, but on my calibrated monitor it needs a little more contrast in the highlights. Easy to fix though. Sweet, mate!

Beautiful image Peter. Wonderful warm colors and love those cacti lit up like that. I have to get to these desert areas some day. I'm really enjoying this.

This is such a beautiful landscape with some great and dramatic colors. You really had fantastic conditions and did a great job capturing it. The repost with more contrast looks awesome. Great job here on this one :toast:

A beautiful desert scene. Love the sky color as well as the great variety of other elements. The image with added contrast does appear better IMO. I wish there was a bit more room at the bottom, but sometimes you just can't find it, can you?

I like the contrasting warm/cool tones. Honestly, the composition feels a bit forced if that makes sense. What I mean is that I don't have the sense that there is a strong flow between the visual elements in the scene. It's a beautiful image, but among the other images in your portfolio it doesn't quite measure up.

Thanks Guys, I probably shot have shot this as a pano and stitched to get more foreground and sky, but I didn't think of that then. The desert is such a difficult place to find a good composition, I just liked how it sorta flowed in a circle like fashion with the cloud.

Everything is working together here. the detail in the fg is particularly appealing as is the color in the sunset. Very nicely done

Beautiful shot. Both versions really glow. I think I like the mood and sublety of the 1st version better.

Wow, what a "cool" light show. Everything works for me here. Perspective, composition, light, mood. I also really like the darker image you posted first.

Amazing light, composition, angle and jutting of the prickly saguaros against the soft sky.
