Since Vincent mentioned the slowness of new posts this week...here's one more.

One of the treats of the Kgalagadi is getting decent daytime sightings of the Brown Hyena.

A face only a mother could love! Taken at last light this November past as he strolled up for a drink.

Techs:
Nikon D3s
Nikkor 500mm f4 VR-II
1.4x TC
f8.0 | 1/1000 SS | ISO-2000

I have a soft spot for hyenas Morkel. I think they get a bad rap. This is far from the ugliest I've seen. The light is super. If it's possible I might have allowed a little more open space on the left side. But that's just me (learning from what others say about my pics)

Nice subtle light, and more importantly, a good clear view of those striped legs. This one's in better shape than one of the two I saw last August (which had a nasty neck wound).

Morkel,

Nice to get one of these relatively near, they were all on the Botswana side when I went

Hi Morkel, thanks for helping to increase the number of posts. You are right these guys can be seen best in daylight in the Kalahari, even in summer! However, I have even seen them on the outskirts of the city here! Nice capture in sweet light. I might consider toning down the brightest areas in the top half a little. Not a must, just a personal preference.

I like the two feet off the ground pose! Only suggestion I can find is to experiment a bit with brightness and contrast on the main subject.
