Grain Bin Detail

Gallery: POP PhotosPosted April 29, 2013352 views6 comments
This image was inspired by a post from NPN member John Tobias back in November. After seeing his image here, I decided to go out and take a few photos of grain bins near home.

Where John's photo showed a grouping of these bins, I ended up being more intrigued by the details in the texture/lines inherent in form of these bins.

Processed using NIK HDR and CEP4. Was thinking B&W, but decided to leave traces of colour. Wish I had shot with a little more space on the right.

Techs: ISO 400, 1/1000 sec at f/11, 70-300 lens @ 150mm, -2/3EV

I like this a lot! Great abstract, with the lines and light. The highlights and shadows work very well. Excellent image.

I love this, Karen. Thanks to John Tobias for inspiring it.

Something to try, if you care to, I tried it and liked the result: Desaturate and then rotate clockwise 90 degrees.

Excellent abstract. Love how you have retained the silvery, metallic sheen to the metal, which seems to have an inner glow. Outstanding.

Excellent comp Karen, it looks like some high-tech contraption, I wouldn't have guessed a silo. I like all the vertical lines and all the different tones of the corrugated metal. Nicely seen!

Very interesting patterns and a good eye to see this. I like that it's somewhat offset so it's not a complete replication of patterns. I think the color works well

I like the light & shadow across the bins Karen. It gives this other wise flat scene a good sense of depth.
Good eye for the shot, the bins up close like this make for a great abstract! :toast:
