Gold Medal Mill

I recently was in Minneapolis where I grew up and wanted to try some night shots of the city. I went down to the stone arch bridge over the Mississippi and was intrigued by the big neon "Gold Medal Flour" sign which is a Minneapolis icon. The ruins in the lower right are from an old mill along the Mississippi river. Laziness kept me from taking my tripod out on the bridge with me - so I just tried to hold REALLY steady while balancing the camera on the railing of the bridge - seemed to have worked well. Probably should have taken multiple exposures for a true HDR blend, but I'm very new to photographing non-wildlife so live and learn

Nikon D7100 14-24mm f4 lens @ 18mm HH balanced on railing
f/9
ISO 1250
2.5 seconds

Full Frame, cloned out a Uhaul truck and made two other minor adjustments

I really like this one Luke, because you took this roughly in a level plane with the road it almost gives the foreground ruins an 'underworld' kind of feel. It also tells a story about the history of the area. I think you did a good job with the exposure, it looks pretty natural to me.

You did really well with the HH Luke. I really love how this creates an illusion of the new city having been built over top of the old ruins, exactly how Scott mentions the "underworld" effect. I think the monotone nature of night enhances that effect as well. Nice job!
