Less Traveled - WC#582
by Wayne Jones
Yes, this really is a road less traveled, because it's closed to the public. Horse-drawn wagons, and then some early automobiles once used this road to get to Adirondack camps. Now that the State has acquired the land, it is called a truck trail, and used only occasionally by trucks carrying State workers for trail maintenance fire prevention, and emergencies, etc. In the Adirondack Forest Preserve, some land -- which has essentially no trace of human activity -- is classified as wilderness, where no motors or any wheeled vehicles are allowed. But other parcels such as this, which have man-made features such as this old road, have classifications such as "Wild Forest" where State Agencies and hikers can use roads that have long been closed to the public.
