I'm always amazed at the color. patterns and textures of sandstone, it's always so varied and I always end up taking abstracts of it. This one is from November in northern Arizona. Critiques would be welcomed, thank you.

I like the color and texture in this image and most of all how it suggests primordial laminar flow; some iron-rich composition once flowed here.

I like the composition with the exception of the upper right corner; the other three corners are great. I tried a few things with it that I'll share if you want to experiment; Simply a 90°CCW rotation and then a levels adjustment where the center slider is moved very slightly towards the right to bring out color and contrast a bit more.

This combination, I think, helps the image to flow from right to left in a landscape formate and adds to the textural and color contrast interest of it.

In any case, great capture illustrating the ancient origins of our planet.

Thanks for the suggestions John, I tried the rotation, if fact rotated it all the way around, but to my eye it it doesn't look right (probably just grown used to it) so I left it. I'm glad you mentioned the added contrast, when I posted the image it looked a little flat compared to the master file, I don't know why, the colors usually match pretty well. So I added some contrast and it does look better.

I recall some of your other images of sandstone so was glad to see you entered one in this weekly challenge, Scott. This is another beauty! I like the flowing feel of the lines in this. . .almost looks like flowing lava. Your lighting helps to show off the texture but I do like the added contrast in your repost which helps bring out the colors and texture even more.

The second version seems more saturated and film-like. It is nice to have two versions of this to look at. I am not surprised to see southwestern sandstone in this challenge. I like the story written in stone and I like the photo.

Beautiful example of color, texture, and form. Still seems to be flowing and the lines seem to have SE to NW orientation. Thanks for sharing!

Great set of colors and swirls, Scott. I like the flowing sense created by multiple structures near the top and the two large lobes at the bottom. My only suggestion would be to have moved a step or two to the left, to push the big lobes at the bottom towards the right corner while leaving the tighter curls at the top where they are or possible a bit to the left. In spite of that suggestion, this works very well as presented. The added contrast and subtle increase in saturation in the repost are nice improvements.
