White-winged Dove (Zenaida asiatica)

Place: Phoenix, AZ
Date: April 28, 2013 4:18 pm
Equipment: Nikon D300, Nikkor AF-S 300/2.8, TC14E(1.4x), G1325, RRS BH-55, Sidekick
Exposure: ISO 800, Aperture priority matrix metered, 1/250th @ f5.6
Raw, PS CS3 on Mac, 86% of full frame

A companion shot to my previous post (a young Mourning Dove). Taken through the glass patio door of a bird visiting a water feature just off the patio. The light was better in the Mourning Dove shot but at least this dove has more color.

I like the back-lit rim light of this photo, it creates a nice seperation from the background. Excellent details on the shadowed side too. Perfect exposure work.

Been hot down there in your neck of the woods and I'll bet that water flowing over his feet feels pretty dang good. That is a strong shadow especially when contrasted with the legs. Dynamite detail, thanks for sharing it.

Nice light and wonderful detail-especially so considering the image was shot thru the patio window.

The backlighting is very effective, and a lovely exposure of the bird itself. A fine photo of an underrated bird.

Richard,

Simply put this is very nice indeed, the colours are particularly good in the large version

You managed to pull the many nuances of this bird's plumage even with the back lighting. Well done. :toast:

Great rim light with nice detail on the shadow side. I do wish that the upper L wasn't so bright.

Some tough light to deal with Rich. I like the overall affect. I too wish the UL was a bit less harsh.

Strong morning light, well managed with very good details retained on your shadowed side.
I've been known to shoot through some specially installed, extra thin window glass on occasion Rich.
Just wondering how thick your patio glass is, great results.
