Came across a herd of Bighorn Rams in Waterton NP a couple of weeks ago, and this was one of my favourite images from that encounter.

As always comments, critique and suggestions are most welcome.

Tech stuff: Canon 1D4, EF 100-400mm f4.5/5.6L IS USM @400mm, f/5.6, 1/800 ISO 200. Manual exposure, spot metering.

Impressive horns on this big guy, you rightly positioned the head in front of the darker spruce trees to enhance their appearance. The foreground brush comes up perhaps a little high on the body, merely personal preference though. I really like the expression on his face and the tilt of the head, works with the subtle diagonals throughout.

I think the "tilted" angle works well here. The fact that the hillside and even the gaps in the trees accentuate it helps. OTOH, said gaps are a bit distracting, but you did well with the circumstances. It definitely helps that the ram is mostly against the dark backdrop.

Rick,

You caught a marvelous pose here, both the BG and FG are not the best, but they certainly do not detract from the subject itself :toast:
