Fox

This fox has a den in our backyard again this spring. She had several kits and it has been fascinating to watch them grow. In a few weeks they will be on their own, if past practice holds true again this year.

Wonderful image Russell. The tones in the image compliment each other quite nicely. The focal plane in the middle of the image creates some nice depth as well. Great work!

I agree with Scotts comments. The three trees help to frame the subject and focus our attention on it. Love the pose and backwards glance, replete with catchlight. My only minor little nit to pick would be with the fox's tail, couldn't he have tucked it under him so it doesn't continue on behind the tree? Awesome photo regardless, looking forward to seeing more as the kits emerge. BTW, don't see that lens used very often with the 2X, but this image shows how effective it can be - 600 effective mm (if you factor in the crop factor) in a very compact package and lots of megapixels to play with in that body.

Russ your 70-200 with 2x certainly works very well as said before the trees make a nice frame ,think you should have a good time when the cubs come along.

Russell, love the colour and framing, I do find the light spot above the fox's head a little distracting...If it were mine i would clone that out. Nice detail. :toast:

Really well done. Nicely composed with good detail. I really like the framing of the subject by the trees.

You caught a really fine pose here with that super intense gaze. The trees do make a nice frame.

The shallow dof together with the sharp subject detail really make this shot for me. Love the backwards glancing pose too, and how lucky are you to have these beautiful animals living literally in your own back yard.
