This is really an amazing peak of the Dolomites, known as Sass de Putia (Peitlerkofel in German) and it's placed exactly at the intersection between Badia and Funes valleys at Passo Erbe, in the region of Alto Adige/South Tyrol, Italy.
It looks very steep and jagged from this side, and it is very funny if you think that actually this is one of the easiest climbs in the entire Dolomites, if you take the trail from the opposite side. I'm not saying you can get up there driving your car but, well, almost...
I took this picture a couple of years ago on an evening of mid June, about 40 minutes after sunset. I was driving my car on the way back after a full day spent in the Funes valley photographing the Odle range. But those slow moving clouds were still catching the vanishing glow of the setting sun in such a beautiful way, that I Had to stop.
The pine trees and the mountain were already quite dark however the sky was still bright enough for at least framing the composition... well, to make it short, it ended up that I took the best - and by far - picture of the whole day

I like this composition - it is the sky that does the job here.
I hope you stick around for a while now!
-Harry, I see what you mean but it was not possible actually. The point of view here is from the top of a pass so there's nothing more elevated there, I was already on the highest vantage point.
i like it
