Small-flowered Lupine

At least that's what I think it is. This is an odd color variation that I ran across beside the road on my morning walk today. I marked it with a stone along the roadway and went back to shoot it. People must have really been wondering what that nut was doing beside the road, but no one stopped.

I probably should go back and look at the leaves more closely as there is another species that is quite close called Bi-colored lupine but it was growing in a patch of the Small-flowered.

5Diii, 180mm f3.5 macro, tripod. This is a stack of two shots at f14, 1/100, iso 500, Av mode with no compensation. Stacked and processed in CS6. This purple is pretty accurate-see my earlier post of this species for the normal blue color. I cropped this to 16.2 MP after stacking. Taken at 9:27 this morning.

Your comments and criticisms are most appreciated.

Thanks for looking,

Nicely done! The hairs, all shiny and bright, add much to this. I like the palmate leaves in b/g... a good touch. My only thought for improving would be to clone out the little dirt-spot on the upper right petal. Minor...and easy. Ken S

I will echo Ken's comments, except I would clone out the bug on the same petal.

Great find, Dennis! Well worth your stop and strange looks from others. I like the lighting in this--helps highlight all the little hairs and makes some of the white petals look almost translucent. The blurred leaves in the background form a really nice backdrop for the more detailed flower plus help show the flower within the context of the larger plant. My only minor thought was to play with cropping up some from the bottom--possibly to right above the yellow spot in the lower right leaf. It feels a bit busy along the bottom of the frame.
