Spring Creek

I just finished this one. Due to the rainy weather we have had here lately I have visited several gorges, waterfalls and creeks to photograph. This is an image from a small side valley in Eital. Eital is an area in northwest switzerland. Spring is a great time of the year to spend in forests and gorges, especially after or during some rain showers. After experimenting with several different processing techniques I found what I was looking for.....I was after a slight dreamy look here, yet not to strong since I don't want the image look too fantasy.

Great silkiness in the waterfalls. This reminds me of something one might see in a storybook with maybe a forest sprite or leprechaun suddenly appearing.

On my monitor (which is uncalibrated) the saturation looks pretty intense in the greens, but maybe that adds to the sort of mythic quality of it.

Sweet scene, with intense colors. The Orton look is a bit strong for my tastes, but it does a fine job emphasizing the dreamy look.

Very nice Bill. I like the smooth water look. The greens seem a little bright on my monitor, but that may just be my calibration.

Wow--this is beautiful, Bill! The processing works great for this scene. I might crop just a tiny bit off the top to minimize the bright bg portion up top. Sweet!

Beautiful spring scene, Bill. It has that feel of just after the rain in some wonderful light. I think your comp works well too!

The thumbnail doesn't do this justice, Bill. The greens look fine to me and I really like the slight Orton effect here; it is perfect for the slight dreamy look you were after. My only suggestion, and this is just a personal preference; would be to crop or clone out the lighter toned rock on the top edge of the frame. It tugs my eye from all the other wonderful stuff happening in this springtime scene.

Beautiful scene Bill! The greens look great. I love spending time in the forest after or during rain. Your processing helps to convey a fairy tale feel, but it does not look too fantasy.

Hey Bill - The greens feel a little too electric for me but they do hold with the fantasy impression. I might crop a little off the right to place the middle falls more in the right 1/3 of the image. The right tree could act as a natural book end. There also seems to be some yellow in the water which may be entirely natural from the lighting, though it could also be a by product of the processing of the foliage. Maybe try reducing the yellows in the water, or adding more blue and see if it is to your liking. Sweet shot. :toast:

Thanks for all your feedbackes and suggestions. As always I really do appreciate it. I see what some of you mean by cropping or cloning the bright parts at the top.

A very nice presentation of this s pring scene to me, Bill. I especially enjoy the framing of the falls by the vibrant greens and rocks.
