Painted Finch

This is an arid zone species here in Australia. They have evolved with a sharp pointed beak which enables them to pick up spinifex seeds in their rocky habitat.

Ormiston, NT, April 2013.

D800, 300 2.8, 1.7TC, f/8, 1/500, ISO800.

Thanks, Greg.

What a spectacularly-coloured bird!
Nice perch, BG, and a perfect view of that sharp beak.
The oof branch is a bit bothersome but likely unavoidable. Still, a squar-ish crop might be able to cut out some of it.
Very fine image! :toast:

Greg,

Whoever "painted" this did a mighty fine job
I would give consideration to taking some from the bottom to eliminate the "worst" of the lower part of the perch.

Stunner Greg, what a beautiful bird captured perfectly. I do find the lower part of the perch distracting, but that's easily fixed. This is a winner.

Another winner Greg. The lower part of the perch is out of focus but that dsoesn't bother me as the bit i want to look at is nice and sharp and colourful.

What an appropriate name. Very nice. I might crop a little off top and bottom but then that is just me.

Fantastic shot, just fantastic.

I have chased this bird many times and have never got anything that comes close to this.

Congratulations.

That's a pretty interesting array of patterns and colors. Looks pretty much flawless from here. Well done, Greg! :toast: :toast:

Extraordinary bird, Greg. The color palette is very nice. If it were mine, I might try a tighter crop, clipping some of the OOF branch out and a bit off the back.

Cool pose of a beautifully colored bird. Sharp as a tack. I like the smooth BG. I also echo the thoughts about cropping.

Stunning Greg, just beautiful. I would agree with what I believe Sandy suggested, and cropping a bit from the bottom. In scrolling down it squares it off, but seems to help a bit--not that this needs any help at all!!
