Canon 1D X, 300mm x 2.0 TC, handheld kneeling on tundra
f7.1, 1/1000, ISO200

A good weekend on the Denali Highway. It's still winter at the higher elevations, but a few species have arrived. This Jaeger had prey, and let us approach fairly close. I am pretty pleased with the camera's management of the pure whites and pure blacks in the late afternoon sunlight.

80% of full frame. Slight sharpening to bird. Levels unadjusted.

C & C, please. Thanks for looking.

(I've re-calibrated my monitor with Spyder 3.X. Please let me know if it still appears dark.)

Great bird - nice pose and habitat - nice side-lighting, too -
Does seem dark to me - the detail in the head is lost, as well as in the breast and tail.
Thanks for the reminder to re-calibrate here too!

Maybe it's supposed to be dark. It's Alaska. Nice work, Jim, but could use some lightening in the shadows. :toast:

Time for a new monitor, I think. I'd been holding out waiting for Apple to announce a new Mac Pro, but if I can't get the brightness right after calibration, I think it's time to swap.

Nice, Jim. The afternoon light really comes through in this image, and the detail is great. To my eye and on my monitor the image still looks just a bit dark, but the blacks are still showing detail, so it may be where you intended it. (I haven't calibrated my monitor in awhile either).
