Blue Flag Iris (Iris virginica) Framed by Grass

I've been waiting several days for calm conditions to get a picture of the blue flag blooming in my yard. The plain background is a happy accident of the Lake in the Hills reflecting the overcast sky.

Nikon D700; Nikkor 200mm; ISO 200, 1/80 @ f/8; tripod

Comments and criticisms always welcome.

Everything beautifully crisp, David - a really lovely bloom to have in the yard. I rather like the tangle of greenery surrounding it - leading the eye a merry dance around the frame.

A very cool composition, David. I like all the elements but the large leaf on the left. It seems to contrast unduly with the delicacy of all the other elements and draws my eye, only to find out that it's oof.

Nice detailed shot of this lovely flower with its beautiful colors and interesting design. The plain background works well and I really like the draped and twisted grass on the right side. I'm in agreement with Dennis though, that I would like to see the larger diagonal grass eliminated. A suggestion would be to clone the grass and the leaves above it out, replacing them with the sky, and then do a slight crop from the left. Then IMO the grass complements the flower rather than competes for attention. Just a thought.

I like the sharpness and natural feel of this. Different and nice work.

David: Stunning flower and I like how the leaves frame the subject. My only suggestion would be to crop a bit from the left side. Very well done.>=))>
