A flower on an old Chinese dogwood tree - one of the exotics in a local public garden. I have attached a comment with a shot of ( most ) of the tree to give some idea of its appearance in full bloom. Might have gone for more dof but in the end I liked it best this way.

Canon 7D, Tamron 55-200mm lens @ 121mm, 1/60 sec @ f5, ISO 400, hh

This is the best view I could get at the time of the tree in its garden setting.

Very nice, Ian. I like the simple form and the angle you chose.

Unique and interesting POV, Ian. It almost looks a bird coming in for a landing or some sort of aircraft ready to take off. Nice blurred background and good focus on the center. . .I think your DOF choice works well. It's interesting that the flower blooms so far above the leaves. . .your angle highlights this well. That would be a special treat to see that old beautiful tree in full bloom!

Hi Ian :wavey: A very imaginative composition... simplistic symmetry and also a mood of motion combine to make a remarkable image :toast:

The stem is sharp so for me the DOF works really well Ian. Great form for the bloom and you have shown it off well. Very nice!

I have a couple Kousa dogwoods blooming in my yard, Ian. They are difficult to photograph, especially when large, because the flowers come out late and bloom on top of the leaves, as your images show. I like the way you captured the single flower against the nice bg. I am ambivalent about the oof leaves at the bottom. Cropping the leaves off the bottom to show just the stem and flower against the bg works well for me.
