Barr Creek Falls Oregon

Barr Creek Falls is a multi-stepped waterfall in the Rogue River Canyon near Prospect, Oregon. Barr Creek bisects the southern end of the Prospect Airfield, then drops over a 60 foot fall which is mostly obscured by trees, then cascades 30 feet and finally plunges 150 feet to the canyon floor. Barr Creek doesn't hold a large volume of water, so the falls range from an explosive torrent during the spring to a more delicate veil later in the summer. When the flow is right, a second segment forms adjacent to the final drop of the falls.

There are just a few angles to shoot this beautiful 3 step waterfall in located southern Oregon. Had to balance the dynamic range in LR 4.1 and then process in PS5. A must visit on the way to Crater Lake from Medford and south Oregon in the historic town of Prospect. There is a second falls nearby named Mill Creek Falls which is nice but hard to view.

Sony a900
Minolta 24-50 f2.8 zoom @ 50 mm
Tripod and cable release & cpl
ISO 100, f22, 1 second
Raw conversion and balance exposure in LR4.1
Corrections in PS5
c&c appreciated :wavey:

For the light available, you handled your exposure well.

This is a beautiful view and you handled the exposure well for the harsh light on the trees, Rick. Did you happen to take any tighter comps of just the falls as I could see that working also with a bit more even lighting. Just a thought.

Rick,

Agree with Youssef, I think you handled the light/exposure well considering the time of day and bright light on the trees up front. so many times we arrive at a location and the light "is what it is" and we don't have time to wait it out. The top of the falls looks pretty washed out, but considering the size in the frame, it's not really an issue. The only suggestions I have would be to clone a few specs on the lwr left edge and maybe that intruding branch (minor.) Also, you might consider selectively burning down the brightness of the trees at the LL, but again, the light is what you were dealt with.

I like the framing and the comp.

Very good job balancing the exposure and nice comp Rick.. Like the front lit FG too, though some may not.
I see you've got some good suggestions, enough said.
Great job on this, looking forward to more from your travels my friend:wavey:

Very nice management of the conditions. Hard to deal with the bright light on the foreground trees. For first attempt at a waterfall this is great - shutter speed looks good (for my taste). Depending on your purpose I might try this as a narrow vertical pano image that included only the waterfall.

Considering the lighting conditions, I think this turned out very well Rick. I'd consider cropping or cloning out the branches that are sneaking into the frame on the lower left.

A little tighter would be nice. A lot of bright around the edges, but what a grand and beautiful waterfall!
