Forest Light

I learned from Art Wolfe to, "Look behind you!" when searching for photo ops in the field. This Rhododendron has a prime spot in the forest along a walking path in Kubota Garden, a Seattle City Park. My jaw dropped when I turned and saw this. Would you agree?
Thanks, Art!

Adore the lighting on these superb flowers, Catherine ! The play of light and shade really brings out the forms, colours and textures of the petals. Excellent composition too ( how difficult these are to compose !!! )

I would agree. This is absolutely stunning, the kind of scene we all hope to happen across when we're out with our cameras. Beautiful job on this. Kudos

Gorgeous, Catherine! A very opportune "look behind". I love the play of light and shadow on these blossoms.

The textures and details in the flowers are amazing. I also agree about the composition being special. The flowers feel dark to me and that may be your intention but I wonder if it's possible to brighten the flowers without blowing out the whites.

@ Mark S.: Hi and thanks for your interest and comment. I checked the levels on the image during processing, and the whites are as high as they can get without being blown. The light is natural as is, including the background, so yes, it is a little darker-- I think part of the allure for me. Appreciate the question. :wavey:

Beautiful rhodie blooms against the dark bg, Catherine, and a real nice comp. Excellent vision to see and capture this. :toast:

Catherine - Thumbnail does not do this justice. Really love the quality of light here - if this were mine, I would not alter the exposure at all. Perfect as presented for me.

Only a minor observation is to revisit a leaf bit which appears to be floating in the lower left corner.
