I found this particular rose flower in a shaded portion of a weedy hedge. I keyed this out as sweetbrier (Rosa eglenteria)and this flower was much brighter than other examples of this species. K5 IIs Manual (iso 160, manual 1/40thsec, 300mm f4 plus 32mm extension at f9, natural light).............................Jim

Sweet color and good detail, especially on the leaves. The petals lack detail in the strong color wash. Working with them a little might bring some detail out. At least, there are some white hot spots in the lower two petals that could be cloned out.

A nice portrait Jim. I think that you could back off the color or the brightness just a bit as the shot feels a little 'hot' overall. Nice composition.

Jim - Good observations from both Phil and Nathan earlier. Love how you angled the camera to harness the DOF and put plane of the flower into the DOF range.

The color combo. works very well and I like your comp. as well. I'm a long time fan of the native roses, they have a simple elegance and your image shows that of very nicely.

Gorgeous shot with extension tube, Jim. The color looks great. I'd heal the eaten leaves, though, as they are in a conspicuous place for the viewer to be able to ignore.
