Framed Whitetail

I believe this to be an older PA Whitetail doe that allowed me to get very close to it along the roadside yesterday. I opened my door, walked all around the vehicle, bend down and it did not move. I did not see a fawn around, but it could have been hiding anywhere in the high grass.

One noticeable thing, the cleft or gap in its left ear... underneath the tree canopy in low light, I liked the way its kind of naturally framed. D90, ISO-640, 1/50th, f-8.0 (hmmm), 300mm on Sigma 150-500. Larger posted, thanks for your input!!

Bill I like the way the deer occupies the frame. The face is good and sharp and the ears, eyes and wet nose hold lots of interesting detail and beauty. I'm not too fond of the vine across the top, it is rather dark and steals "some" of the attention from the deer itself imho. Otherwise, I agree that the greenery around the deer is a good natural frame. Cooperative deer!

I love that beard and the notched ear Bill. IMO your composition is unconventional, but it works very well. I agree with Gary that the dark horizontal vine at the top is not ideal, but it is not a huge nit.

Thanks guys, just an FYI, by my squatting down, and the deer dipping down, it was the only way to get a clear shot of her face without that upper vine cutting across the image--so it's the lesser of two evils IMO.
